NIDDM or type II diabetes Mellitus

  •  NIDDM is a significantly public health problem in the Sultanate of Oman.
  • Based on 1991 regional DM survey in Omani population of age above 20 years indicate that 10.5% are DM, and about 10.5% are IGT.
  • Only one-third of diabetic subjects knew that they had diabetes.
  • The survey found that diabetes was more common in the city area rather than countryside.
  • High rates of overweight and obesity in the population will make diabetes to be a major health problem in Oman.
